Introduction

Learn how to connect your activity and data security dashboards to the DLP database in Power BI. Before performing the actions described below, you must integrate Safetica ONE with your data analysis tool. You can read about it here:

Check

Safetica offers two report templates: Activity dashboard and data security dashboard. To use them in Power BI, you need to connect them to the Safetica database and fill them with data from the DLP logs.

You can download our template here Activity Dashboard
You can download our sample here Data Security Dashboard

How do I connect report templates to the Safetica database in Power BI?

Proceed as follows:

  1. Open Power BI
  2. Click Open Other Reports
  3. Select the desired .pbix template (e.g. activity dashboard or data security dashboard).
  4. An empty template will be opened in Power BI. Now you have to connect it to the Safetica database
  5. Click Transform Data at the top of the screen
  6. On the right in the Applied Steps section, click the icon  next to Source
  7. Enter server and Safetica database names
  8. You can then choose a login method. Click Database and enter credentials for the new account created in the previous steps
  9. If you see that the connection will not be encrypted, click OK
  10. Click Close and apply, to save the settings
  11. Click Refresh. Data from your Safetica database will be loaded to all three tabs on your dashboard

How do I update invalid Power BI account credentials?

Your account username and password are stored in Power BI. If you change your password later, the connection to the Safetica database will stop working (i.e. the old password will become invalid). To resolve this issue and update your credentials:

  1. Click File > Options and Settings > Data Source Settings
  2. Select the appropriate database connection and click Clear Permissions. Saved credentials will be deleted
  3. Click Refresh at the top of the screen and enter new credentials

How do I change the time range for loaded logs in Power BI?

By default, only the latest logs from the Safetica database are loaded for Power BI - the time range is set to the last 30 days.

To change the time range:

  1. Click Transform Data at the top of the screen
  2. On the right in the Applied Steps section, click the icon  next to Filtered Rows
  3. Change the time range as needed and click OK
